At The Harmony Group, our days are usually filled with spreadsheets, market yields, and the long-term mechanics of property investment. For over 15 years, we’ve built a reputation on finding niches that work—from sophisticated residential opportunities to our specialised work in co-living investments—helping our investors secure their financial futures. We’re proud of that track record and the community we’ve built around it.
But today, we want to talk about something that sits beyond capital growth or portfolio diversification.
We believe that a home is more than just an asset class. Where you live dictates your safety, health, and ability to build a life worth living. It’s the foundation for everything else. The reality is that for far too many women and children, that foundation simply isn’t there. We want to help change that, which is why we’ve committed to a long-term partnership with Women’s Community Shelters (WCS).
The Reality of the Need
The statistics surrounding domestic violence and homelessness in Australia are sobering, but we believe in looking at the data honestly:
- The crisis at home: On average, one woman is killed every 11 days by an intimate partner in Australia (2024–25 data).
- The link to homelessness: Violence at home is the primary reason women and children lose their housing. Currently, around 40% of those reaching out for homelessness support are doing so to escape an unsafe environment.
- A rising crisis: The demand for help is outstripping available space. In some states, the number of women and children forced to sleep in cars or “rough” after seeking support has jumped by more than 20% in recent years.
Women’s Community Shelters provides safe, supported accommodation for those escaping these exact crises. They don’t just provide a bed; they also provide a pathway back to independence. The impact they have is immediate and critical to helping people stabilise and rebuild their lives.
Our Role in the Mission
As a group that understands the ins and outs of the property world, we know where our expertise ends and where others’ begins.
- A financial commitment: Our contribution is purely financial. We don’t provide the housing ourselves—we leave that to the experts. WCS has the depth of experience and the genuine compassion needed to support people in the middle of a crisis. Our role is simple: we provide the resources so they can focus on what they do best.
- A long-term pact: This isn’t a one-off donation or a fleeting social media moment. Supporting WCS is now a long-term commitment embedded in how we operate as a business at The Harmony Group.
We’re proud to be building wealth for our investors, but we’re equally proud to be putting some of that success toward people who might not usually have the chance to engage with us.
Why This Matters to Us
Transparency is a core value of ours. Details regarding our contribution timelines and specific funding goals are already being shared directly with our clients. We want you to see exactly where this support is going.
We’ve spent over a decade and a half helping people build wealth and ensuring tenants have high-quality places to live. We believe success carries a responsibility to contribute beyond our own client. By supporting WCS, we’re extending our belief in the power of “home” to those who need it most.
We look forward to sharing more updates as this partnership evolves. This is just the beginning of a long-term partnership. We’ll continue to share updates as it grows and the impact it delivers.
